Archiving an absolutely ribbeting short story
I found an amusing short story on the internet once:
As always, he remembered the last time. The open, reeking mouth filled with razor sharp teeth, and the splintering crunchy sound as his fragile bones snapped as the powerful jaws effortlessly crushed his body.
It was his least favorite way to go. The sudden, dull thump of the eightteen wheeler at least knocked him out somewhat before it walzed over him.
Thing is, he didn't even know why it happened.
He understood the concept of consequence, that wasn't the problem. When you throw yourself in front of a speeding eighteen wheeler, death is the logical consquence.
But why?
Every time.
His thoughts got cut off as the familiar sound blared, and jolted him into action, involuntarily.
Once more, Frogger leapt out onto the highway.
I have no idea where this story came from.
The filename and date tell me I saved this in 2014, and that this is a “drabble”. A drabble is a short story of precisely one hundred words in length, and back then I followed some folks who wrote these short stories. This particular story is not a drabble though, as it counts a little over 100 words. I guess I liked it anyway.
Who wrote it, where was it posted? None of the search engines can find it. I know I came across it in 2014, and that’s it. It has some old fashioned typos that any editor with red squiggly lines would’ve caught: eighteen/eightteen, consquence, walzed. It has Markdown underscores around “why”. I definitely didn’t write it myself as I just can’t englishlanguage that good.
So in a super tiny contribution to archiving what was once on the internet, I’m posting it here. Maybe someone who remembers the story and occasionally searches for it can finally find it, and enjoy it again.
